The Calvana breed Together
with the Perugina breed, this animal is considered an ecotype of the Chianina,
and is smaller in size as a result of difficulties encountered in where it is
currently bred. At one time widespread in the Tuscan Appenines, today there are
less than 400 animals between the Calvana and Mugello mountains near Prato. This
is considered an endangered species according to 1992 FAO guidelines.
Its coat is porcelain-white in colour with slight markings, and black hooves and horns. It was bred for its meat and for agricultural work.
